Air conditioning pilot plant

Air conditioning pilot plant

The air conditioning pilot plant is a climate process implemented in laboratory scale and intended for educational purposes in general control and climatic control studies.

The plant has two controlled variables: air temperature and relative humidity. The corresponding actuators are the heater and the nebulizer. Both variables are cross-connected. An increase of temperature decreases the relative humidity and nebulizing decreases the temperature of the air. The plant therefore represents a true multivariable system with two inputs and two outputs but which is also able to be used as an univariable system if only one of the two control paths are taken into account.

According to experiments performed the following configuration proved to be acceptable: a ventilator for conveying the air which serves as a transport medium, a heating coil as an actuator for the temperature, a nebulizer as an actuator for the relative humidity and a mixing chamber. Both controlled variables are measured through appropriate sensors and transducers.
